Candidate Advice

Interview Techniques..

We understand that going to interviews can, for some, be a stressful experience.  We have put together a few pointers to help calm the nerves and hopefully give you some confidence, and don't forget it is a two way street at interview you are also checking out them too!

  1. Be punctual - telephone if delayed or prevented from attending the interview
  2. Dress suitably - you never get a second chance to make a first impression
  3. Relax and be yourself.
  4. Know your potential employer and their business - do some research.  Receptionists can be a very useful source of information and are usually very helpful and understanding.
  5. Co-operate with your interviewer who will be relying on you for the information they require.  You will be judged on what you say.
  6. Be honest, don't apologise for any weaknessess in your skills and experience.
  7. Do not be surprised by personal questions, your personality is as important as your skills and experience.
  8. Remain positive at all times.
  9. You can ask questions as, this is seen as positive interest, good topics are: your duties and responsibilities; your salary after review; holiday entitlement; training and promotion prospects; benefits packages; hours of work; overtime payments if applicable; working conditions; your immediate Line Manager & Supervisor.
  10. Keep interested and enthusiatic attitude throughout.
  11. Maintain eye contact.
  12. Never criticise past employers or colleagues.
  13. Do not be argumentative or rude.
  14. Use a firm handshake to conclude the interview and thank the interviewer for their time. You can appreciate how valuable their time is.
  15. GOOD LUCK!
